Discovering God’s Love

Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek it’s own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. ~1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Instruction: Now read the same passage replacing the word Love with God. 

God is inviting to love you actively right now. Not when you are perfect, have all the characteristics of Christ, no right now for you are enough right now. He loved you before you even knew of his love or the sin that needed to be forgiven. God delights in you and there is no changing that. He desires for you to enjoy his delight in you through a personal relationship with Jesus. For as a father, God desires a connection with his children…

Why then is it so hard to believe this? What holds us back from accepting the true nature of God as heavenly father? For so long I felt as though I needed to work to get to God, that when I did feel his love it was because I was doing something right. When I messed up it was a different story God was not loving, he didn’t love me anymore he turned his face away from me, he did not incline his ear, he did not look me in my eye, nor did he lift my head. He walked away, he was silent until I began performing and moving in the right direction. I couldn’t feel his love until I did what I felt he wanted me to do.

God’s love was based on behavior change, not true change.  God’s love was based solely on religious practices not on forming a true deep day to day relationship with Jesus. God’s character was not based upon the father figure in my life. His character was not based upon trauma’s that happened to me on the past. God’s character is based on who he says he is. God’s character is based upon who he reveals to you that he is as you build in relationship with him.

As you start to discovery who God is you will began to see who he really is, and who his is not just in general but who he is in relation to you personally. You will see that God is not only a heavenly father, but he is the definition of love.  Love is not just a feeling, it goes beyond feeling it reaches deep within and grabs the heart of what needs healing, building up, and challenged in order for growth to happen. It teaches you the most important lesson, that you were loved far before you knew it and there is nothing you  can do about it.

So it’s okay to believe…

Let’s Pray: 

Lord I thank you for this time with you. It is hard to accept your love as we deal with life and pain on daily basis, and even in healing. Lord I just pray continue to love us daily and show us who you are beyond the pain within the day to day of our lives. Lord please leave us reminders and revelations of your love. We need you everyday, I pray that we continue to gain an understanding of you as our Father in heaven, not just a God that is over everything. Make this time with you on earth intimate Lord, through our personal relationship with you first and through those that we talk to everyday, friends and family in our lives. I pray that we not only feel God’s love, but believe and live in the knowing that you are loved by father that desires a personal relationship with you, that walks besides you, who’s spirit dwells you, and who walks with you daily. May we reflect that Lord as you continue to show us. I thank you for your unfailing and being the love that we need as we continue to heal. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
